AstraZeneca’s cholesterol drug Crestor has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes, according to a study published in theNew England Journal of Medicine.
Researchers at the University of Michigan in the United States found that patients taking Crestor for at least two years had a 69 percent increased risk of developing cardiovascular disease, 18 percent more than a year before.
The study, published online in theJournal of the American Medical Association, analyzed data from more than 40,000 adults. The results showed that patients taking Crestor had a 69 percent increased risk of having diabetes, 16 percent more than a year before.

AstraZeneca and the University of Michigan Medical School’s drug research and development program, which was developed by the research group at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, have already published the results. The research team has found that Crestor can increase the risk of developing type 2 diabetes, and that the drug also can be used to treat other conditions, including heart disease and high blood pressure.

Crestor works by lowering the amount of cholesterol in your body. It works by blocking the cholesterol-esterase enzyme in the liver, which is responsible for breaking down cholesterol. This helps to block the buildup of cholesterol in your blood and prevent it from reaching the liver, which is where it may increase the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Crestor lowers your blood pressure by blocking the formation of certain enzymes in your liver, which reduces the production of LDL (bad cholesterol) and triglycerides (fat) in your blood. Lowering your blood pressure helps to prevent heart disease and to lower your risk of strokes and heart attacks.

Crestor works by reducing a certain enzyme within the body that produces cholesterol. It belongs to a class of medications called statins.
Cholesterol is a form of lipid, a waxy substance that helps your body make cells, vitamins, and certain hormones. It is not inherently bad. Your liver produces an enzyme that synthesizes cholesterol to help with the above healthy functions. Additional cholesterol is introduced to the body through certain foods like meat, poultry, and dairy products.
There are two types of cholesterol: high-density lipoproteins (HDLs) and low-density lipoproteins (LDLs). LDLs carry cholesterol throughout the body, delivering cholesterol to cells that need it. HDLs carry excess LDLs back to the liver, where they are broken down and flushed from the body. While LDLs play a key role in cell health, they build up when the body has more cholesterol than the cells need. This buildup turns into plaque in the arteries (blood vessels). As plaque covers the artery walls, the blood vessels become narrow. This makes it harder for blood to flow through the body, which can lead to heart disease and heart failure.
Statins work by reducing the production of cholesterol in the liver, which lowers the overall cholesterol levels in the body. Not only do statins decrease levels of LDLs in the body, but they can also raise the level of HDLs in the body. In effect, they keep the body from making too much of the “bad” cholesterol that builds up in arteries while increasing the amount of “good” cholesterol that carries the “bad” out of the body. This dual action has been shown, along with diet and exercise, to lower overall cholesterol levels in patients effectively.

I have been taking a statin for years for the rest of my life. I have been taking it for several years. It worked great, but when I took it for a year, it made me really feel tired. The first half of the month was when I was feeling so tired and was getting really tired. But then my liver function and blood pressure dropped to the point where I could barely walk. I started taking it on Jan. 1, and it worked. I stopped the medication when I was feeling OK, and I felt better in about 6 months. I have been taking this medication for the past several years and I can't stop. I'm really looking forward to seeing if it works for me. I'm so thankful I didn't have to take the medication. I can't thank me enough for being so good with it. I'm so glad I made the decision to take this medication and I'm so glad I have found it so easy to use!

My doc prescribed Crestor 40 mg on Jan. 1 and the results were amazing. It helped me a lot, even though the liver function had dropped a little. I stopped the medication and the side effects went away. The only thing that kept me from feeling it was the cholesterol. So I started taking it on Jan. 1 and it helped me. The next 2 weeks I stopped taking it, and the side effects were gone. I went from feeling like I was on the "bad" side to feeling like I was on the "good" side.
